On Tuesday, May 8th, PaveItBlue hosted a candidate forum on the topic of immigration. This is a panel-style event where we will ask the panelists questions about the immigration environment nationally, statewide and locally and how we can help advocate for immigration issues. 

6th US Congressional District candidate, Kevin Abel (www.kevinabelforcongress.com), spoke on the panel from his personal experience as an immigrant from South Africa. Also in attendance were some incredible candidates and subject matter experts with immigration backgrounds:

– Sarah Riggs Amico, Candidate for Lieutenant Governor (www.sarahforgeorgia.com) – Sarah’s husband is an immigrant, and she shared her views on immigration from her family’s personal experiences.

– Aline Mello, DACA recipient and graduate of GALEO’s leadership program – Aline shared her personal story as a child of undocumented immigrants.

– Karin Sandiford, Candidate for GA HD 46 (www.karin4ga.com) – Karin shared her personal experiences with immigration as a Latina and the issues that we should address in Georgia.

– Fred Swann, Candidate for Commissioner of Agriculture (www.swannforga.com) – Fred discussed his stance on immigration regarding the impact anti-immigration laws have on our farms and farm workers and our labor force overall.

– Carol Williams, Immigration Attorney (www.clwimmigration.com) – Carol specializes in assisting both companies and individuals with immigration issues. She has extensive experience in private practice as well as working for United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) in DC. And, she is starting her own podcast about immigration issues!

– Mrs. Hiba Ghalib, Immigration Attorney (www.immigration.net) – Hiba specializes in deportation and removal defense as well as advising companies regarding compliance and the EB-5 program. She is an expert on asylum and refugee matters. She is a volunteer attorney for IRAP, International Refugee Assistance Program.
